Luigi Coppolino

Luigi Coppolino is an Assistant Professor at the University of Naples Parthenope.

He got a Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering at the University of Naples Federico II. His research activity mainly focus on dependability (performance/performability, reliability, availability, safety e security) of critical networked computing systems such as telemedicine, e-government, and video surveillance applications, or avionics, railways, and automotive systems.
During his research activity Mr. Coppolino is/has been engaged in fruitful collaborations with several foreign and national reserch centers, both in the accademia and in industry, such as the -distributed Systems Laboratory of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, the Istituto di Calcolo e Reti ad Alte Prestazioni (ICAR-CNR) of Naples, the Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell'Informazione of the Seconda Università di Napoli, Dipartimento di Informatica e Sistemistica of the Università di Napoli Federico II, the TestGroup of the Politecnico di Torino, the Automotive Products Group of the ST Microelectronics, the ATOS Origin, and the Ansaldo Segnalamento Ferroviario.
He has also strongly worked together with many SME located in the Regione Campania, such as Intesis Engineering, Fides Consulting s.r.l., Sync Lab s.r.l., and Epsilon Srl.
Luigi Coppolino is/has been engaged in a number of research projects, funded by the European Community, namely:
- STREAM (Scalable Autonomic Streaming Middleware for Real-time Processing of Massive Data Flows), Grant agreement no. 216181,
- INTERSECTION (INfrastructure for heTErogeneous, Resilient, SEcure, Complex, Tightly Inter-Operating Networks), Grant agreement no. 216585,
- INSPIRE (INcreasing Security and Protection through Infrastructure Resilience), Grant agreement no. 225553,
- MASSIF (MAnagement of Security information and events in Service InFrastructures), Grant agreement no. 257475,
- SAWSOC (Situation AWare Security Operations Center), Grant agreement no. 313034,
- LeanBigData, Grant agreement no. 619606,
- SERECA (Secure Enclaves for REactive Cloud Applications).
He has also worked and is working on projects funded by Italian Ministries, namely PHDS (A middleware infrastructure for real-time Processing of Heterogeneous Data Streams), SIS-TEMA (Sistema Integrato Sicuro Terra Mare) and TENACE "Protecting National Critical Infrastructures from Cyber Threats".
During his activity in the telemedicine project Mr. Coppolino was at the University of New South Wales (Sydney), as Visiting Researcher, working with prof. Branko Celler's research group. He was engaged in specifying and designing an architecture delivering security services to telemedicine systems. The result of his research was included into the final architecture of the Home Telecare system developed and distributed by prof. Branko Celler's research group.
In 2006 the TrustedSIM, javacard based project, developed by Mr. Coppolino, was one of the winners of the 7th SIMAGINE contest, sponsored by Axalto, SUN Microsystems and Samsung.
Luigi Coppolino has been a reviewer for several prestigious international conferences (eg. DSN, SRDS) and journals (eg. IEEE Proceedings, IEEE Transaction on Dependable and Secure Computing).
